Ingleton Wood are proud to share our newly designed scheme, the £650k Specialist Dementia Care Facilities at Bedford Hospital, which were officially opened to much acclaim on 5th December 2014, by Bedford MP Richard Fuller. Our Director and Ingleton Wood’s project lead, Paul Cavalier, was in attendance at the opening. Harpur and Elizabeth Wards have been refurbished to provide specialist dementia care as part of the Prime Minister David Cameron’s Dementia Challenge, which will allow Bedford Hospital to deliver outstanding tailored care to these patients, their families and their carers. This exciting project involved de-cluttering the existing ward areas and used the latest research into dementia design to provide a more comfortable and homely feel for the patients. Ingleton Wood’s innovative interior design solution included cinema areas with styled seating and Kodak style monitor screens to aid reminiscence with film of the local area, along with extensive use of large scale artwork throughout. The entrance to the wards comprises a historic timeline of museum images through the years whilst on the wards themselves, consistent handrailing to ease mobility was provided, along with carefully designed colour coded bed bays and individually designed bed bay cubicles. Extensive seating and furnishings were incorporated throughout with coordinated way-finding signage, to ensure that patients and their relatives feel as comfortable as possible. This highly prestigious project has been featured in Bedford Today and Bedford Hospital NHS websites today.
